The Instructional Communication Interest Group invites completed papers, panels, and round table discussions that focus on the convention theme: Currents. Originally the site of the 2021 Convention, we are excited to be in this beautiful, newly renovated hotel on the banks of the Charles River, with spectacular views of the Boston skyline. The convention site is convenient to many of the Cambridge and Boston area attractions, including the Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Fenway Park, Museum of Science, Faneuil Hall Marketplace/Quincy Market, and Boston Common.

In keeping with the theme of Currents, we invite you to consider submissions that address our continuing opportunities to contribute to a post-pandemic future. Specifically, this could include:

  • How do historical currents shape our current the terrain of the study of communication?
  • How can the communication discipline move ideas and theories into a wider body of knowledge?
  • How do theories currently shape the practice of communication?
  • What communication ideas, topics, or concepts have currents worn down or created a new?
  • How do we support our current students – undergraduate and graduate – in navigating their academic experiences?
  • What kinds of impacts do current technologies have on communication pedagogy?
  • What current trends and movements are changing the direction of teaching, learning, practicing, and theorizing communication?
  • The Instructional Communication Interest Group at ECA utilizes Attendee Interactive for all submissions and blind-reviews. The link for submissions is: https://ww4.aievolution.com/eca2401/

In addition to traditional panel submissions in which three to four speakers present individual papers on a specific topic area, consider submitting panels that are unique in composition and format. For instance, you might consider proposing a workshop session led by two or three experts on a particular topic with audience involvement and participation. You might also consider submitting a round table discussion featuring 5-8 presenters who share their positions on a focused topic moderated by a chair.

  4. A program copy (no more than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program.
  5. A detailed rationale for the program/panel.
  6. Titles and abstracts for each speaker’s contribution (if applicable).

In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. **Submitters are encouraged to create panels/programs comprised of individuals from different institutions. Chairs and respondents should typically not also serve as panelists.
