“Currents”

The Organizational Communication Interest Group invites submissions in preparation of the annual ECA Convention to be held from March 20-24, 2024. We are seeking proposals (representing an individual paper, panel, roundtable discussion, or workshop session), for the 115th convention to be held at the Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge located in Cambridge, MA. The deadline for submissions is September 18, 2023. The convention theme, “Currents,” reflects many different aspects of the organizational communication tradition, both historically and contemporarily. What historical currents have shaped organizational communication studies? What current trends exist in organizational communication and how will these shape the future of the discipline? How can we support and encourage current scholars and students of organizational communication as they engage in their work? We encourage submitters to consider papers, thematic panels, works in progress, and other programs that explore related issues and questions, and how these topics and questions intersect with critical issues related to organizational communication.

This year, we are seeking submissions in two categories: competitive papers and program/panel proposals (including roundtables discussions and workshop sessions). Please follow the instructions below for each type of submission:

Submission of completed papers should include the following components:

  • A completed paper no more than 8,000 words not including the title page, the abstract, the references, tables, and figures.
  • A statement of professional responsibility (see below).
  • The word “Debut” marked on the paper if it is written by authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention. To be considered a “debut” paper, all authors must not have presented previously at a regional or national convention.
  • The word “Student” marked on the paper if it is written by authors who are undergraduate or graduate students. To be considered a “Student” paper, all authors must be students at the time of submission.
  • If the paper has multiple authors, please indicate who will be presenting the paper at the convention.

Only one single paper may be submitted to the Organizational Communication Interest Group!

Submission of program/panel proposals should include the following components:

  • A thematic title for the program.
  • Names of the chair and respondents (if any). Chairs should not be designated as respondents.
  • Names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and institutional affiliations of all participants.
  • Titles and abstracts for each paper or presentation.
  • A program copy (no more than a 75-word description) as it should appear in the final program.
  • A detailed rationale for the program/panel.
  • A statement of professional responsibility (see below).

Statement of Professional Responsibility:

"In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/we agree to present this paper or program/panel if it is accepted and programmed. I/we further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA's annual meeting must register and pay the required fees.”

All submissions must be uploaded through Attendee Interactive, which can be accessed at https://ww4.aievolution.com/eca2401/. You will be prompted to either login using either (1) ECA-specific credentials (you will be unable to use login credentials you may have created for any other association that uses Attendee Interactive) or (2) create an account. Please contact Primary Convention Planner Jeanna Persuit (persuiteca2024@gmail.com) with any questions.
