Job description |
The School of Communication, Journalism, and Media seeks an Assistant Professor of Speech and Debate, starting in August, 2025. The position duties include: Conducting research and teaching undergraduate and possibly graduate courses in communication. Teach courses that may include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Debate, Political Communication, Communication & Social Influence, Persuasion & Social Influence, Seminar in Rhetorical Criticism, or other courses commensurate with experience. In addition, this position will serve as the Director of Speech and Debate. These responsibilities include: · Overseeing an active speech and debate program for success at the state, regional, and national levels; · Coaching students in debate and/or individual events; · Mentoring graduate assistant coaches; · Publicizing the success of the program; · Recruiting student participants; · Coaching novice students interested in participating in debate and/or individual events. Required Qualifications: · Ph.D. in Communication (must be completed no later than August, 2025). · Previous college teaching experience in communication courses. · Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to communication courses related to rhetoric, debate, leadership, persuasion, politics, and other related areas. · Active research agenda related to communication. · Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations Preferred Qualifications: · 3-5 years’ experience teaching in higher education. · Previous experience as Director of Speech and Debate or equivalent.
