Communication (Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor)

The School of Communication, Journalism, and Media, which is housed in the College of the Arts and Media, seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication to begin August 2024. We welcome applications with expertise related to any of the following areas: (a) communication for social justice or climate justice; (b) communication for social activism or social movements; (c) communication for social change; or (d) health communication campaigns. Duties include: Teach a 3/3 load that includes undergraduate level and graduate level courses relevant to the candidate’s expertise in the COM major/minor and/or in the University Program (i.e., general education classes). Develop a course in the candidate’s area of expertise that addresses studies in diversity and could be added to the University Program (i.e., general education classes). Engage in scholarly and creative activities to maintain an active research program. Engage in service across the department, college, university, and community levels including participating in departmental meetings and committees. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Other duties assigned. Required qualifications: PhD in Communication (must be completed no later than August, 2024). Previous college teaching experience in communication courses. Ability to teach courses related to change campaigns (e.g., health communication campaigns, social change campaigns, organizational change campaigns, labor organizing, or social movements). Active research agenda related to change campaigns (e.g., health communication campaigns, social change campaigns, organizational change campaigns, labor organizing, or social movements). Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications: Experience studying mediated communication campaigns (e.g., digital activism or multimedia change campaigns). Experience mentoring or teaching graduate students.
