Short Course 6: Create Our Future Utilizing Media Based Pedagogies to Promote Social Awareness in Our Students

With the rise of social media hashtags like #MeToo and #TimesUp and the debate between facts and "fake news", students have an increased interest in and need for media literacy and media production skills. As a pedagogical technique, this short course considers the opportunities of creating media to address larger pedagogical goals, such as media literacy, critical thinking skills, and active learning techniques. In connection with ECA's theme of "Creating Our Future", this course specifically questions how we can advance student engagement through the analysis and creation of media to engage them in social and cultural awareness and civic action.
