ECA 2017 Election Results

ECA 2017 Election Results

Jennifer WaldeckOn behalf of the entire Executive Committee, I am thrilled to congratulate Dr. Jennifer Waldeck, Associate Professor of Communication at Chapman University, on her election to First Vice President Elect-Select of the Eastern Communication Association. A Life Member of ECA, Dr. Waldeck brings an extensive background in instructional and organizational communication to her new role as an officer in the association. She will be tasked with planning the 2020 convention (April 1-5) at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore. We welcome her to the leadership team!

I also want to thank Dr. Tracey Quigley Holden for her candidacy and her continued leadership in ECA. In her many years of service to ECA, Dr. Holden has done program planning for the Political Communication Interest Group as well as Basic Course planning; she will continue in her current term as the Four-Year College Representative to NCA’s Legislative Assembly.

The Bylaws revisions also passed, with only 2 “no” votes and 10 abstentions from the voting pool. The new Bylaws will go into effect immediately and can be found here:  ECA Governance

Finally, I thank all of you for your participation in and patience with this year’s rather unusual, unprecedented - and, hopefully, never to be repeated - election process. From the procedures taken to reconvene the Nominating Committee to the tight timeline to ensure a 2017 ballot, the Executive Committee recognizes the extent to which this year’s election disrupted the preferred course of action for deliberating about our future leadership. Nevertheless, I am every bit confident that the work of Immediate Past President Jason Wrench and the members of the 2017 Nominating Committee has preserved the integrity of the election outcome and provided us with continuing leadership that is strong, innovative, and dedicated.

I invite all members to consider how you can contribute your considerable skills to ECA’s leadership team and help shape our Association’s future in the 21st century. As the oldest professional communication association in the United States, we have long been a distinguished leader in scholarship, teaching, and service. You, our members, possess the talent and vision to keep that momentum going well into the next century. The 2018 Nominating Committee is coming for you!

Many congratulations again to Dr. Waldeck, and many good wishes to all of you for a wonderful New Year.

All the best,

Cheryl Casey Signature
