Assistant Teaching Professor for Strategic Communication

The Department of Communication at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a dedicated teacher in the area of strategic communication capable of teaching the Department’s basic Communication and Society class, one of three large introductory communication classes which primarily focuses on organizational communication and interpersonal communication, and developing, revising, and teaching courses in the areas of business communication, public relations, marketing, and advertising. We seek candidates with experience using a variety of digital communication platforms, engaging diverse and/or underrepresented audiences, and designing communication courses with public-facing outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with public or private sector organizations; professional experience in a strategic communication role is a plus. A strong teaching record at the college level is required. Interests in advising and/or program-level curriculum development are a plus. This is a one-year, appointment stream position with possibility of renewal subject to performance review. Starting date for the position is September 1, 2024 (though the term begins in August). Teaching Professors are voting members of the Department’s faculty and can participate in Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and broader University governance. A PhD in Communication or a related field is required.
