Short Course 9: Crafting the Future of Communication Research: Advancing Student Digital Literacy Skills

South County - 3rd Level

This short course focuses on instructional strategies and campus resources that improve the communication classroom in advancing students' digital/information/media literacy skills and understanding of communication research. These practices apply to both undergraduate and graduate classes and focus on increasing student familiarity with the different communication texts and tools that frame our discipline. While current students are considered 'digital natives,' many of them struggle utilizing the mass of information found online to better their academic and professional futures. Consequently, ideas for building, collaborating, and imagining instructional practices that educate students about research within the communication discipline are explored.
