Short Course 1: Persuasion: Agenda/Spin Creative Rhetoric Revolution

South County - 3rd Level

The study of persuasion has been a central concern of rhetoric studies since Aristotle's Rhetoric. Persuasion is the focus of not only those studies, but also is a major component of other disciplines, including political science, psychology, psychiatry, mass media, legal studies (and particularly trial law), business and others.

Nothing is more central to Communication Studies and, one might
argue, most Communication sub-disciplines, than a properly conceived perspective on persuasion. Extant theories of persuasion see persuasion as parasitic to situational study, whereas the perspective offered here argues for a focus on creative human agency to understand the study of persuasion.
